Universal Children’s Day Celebration 2008


Commemoration of universal children’s day was celebrated, on 1st October 2008 at the “Elephant Walk” grounds in Katugastota, Kandy. About 250 children of different races and religious participated in it from different parts of the District of Kandy and Matale. The aim and objective of this celebration was to instill in the children positive concepts on peace, cordiality and good-will. The programme included rhythmic songs and dances, short drama and magic show. All the participants enjoyed the day and benefited by the programme.


Over 135 children tool part in the children’s day programme in Nuwara Eliya District. It was in the form of an exposure programme. The children visited Ambewela and Hatton and the children were very happy. The animators of Nuwara Eliya Distirct attached to Setik accompanied the children.

These two programmes were organized by the children’s unit of “Setik”.

Children’s Inter Cultural Exposure Programme


An exposure programme was implemented for the “Rainbow Children” of “Setik” Kandy. 45 children irrespective of race and creed participated in this programme. These children were taken to Kanadalama (Matale District) where they met the village children’s group, who joined us in the Exposure Programme to “Sigiriya”. 6o rural children from Kandalama together with our 45 children of Kandy visited the rice fields, irrigation tanks and villages of the dry zone. The children from the city of Kandy were enlightened on the prevailing conditions of village life. In the evening the children joined together to produce a cultural programme. On the following day they visited “Sigiriya” which is one of the wonders of the Sri Lanka, and of the World ! The programme closed with the children sharing their experiences of the programme which gave them enlightenment on the past history of Sri Lanka.
